Urszula Krzyżanowska-Sobiesiek - Obraz kobiety w koncepcjach pedagogicznych polskich autorek katolickich II połowy XIX i początku XX wieku

The Image of Women in the Pedagogical Concepts of Polish Catholic Authoresses in the Second Half of the 19th and Early 20th Centuries

The article reconstructs and compares the role and functions of women and the preparation for their fulfilment in the pedagogical concepts of Polish Catholic authoresses of the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Their visions, despite being rooted in the traditional Catholic paradigm, do not form a uniform model, but represent a spectrum of positions – from more conservative ones to those emphasising the spiritual and intellectual independence of women. The authoresses unanimously recognise religion and patriotism as the foundation of education, closely linked to duties towards the family and the national community. Motherhood and self-sacrifice are central categories of female identity, while education is intended to promote integral moral, spiritual and intellectual development. In contrast to emancipatory proposals, the concepts discussed do not focus on the struggle for equal rights, but on the affirmation of gender differences and the complementarity of roles. The analysis is part of research on Polish pedagogical thought, revealing its complexity and the presence of alternative educational projects to liberal feminism, based on a Christian vision of the person, community and nation.
